Originally from Pennsylvania, David went into the military in 1989, and he proudly served in the US Air Force. He achieved the Air Force Achievement Medal, among other accomplishments, during the first Gulf War. After the military, he moved to Knoxville, TN, where he started his apprenticeship in funeral service.
He attended Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, GA, in 1993 and went back to the Knoxville area to manage funeral homes. In 1995, he was recruited to manage a facility in Memphis, TN. Then, in 1999, he became self-employed, owning the largest sub-contracting agency in the south, subsequently starting a funeral home, crematory, flower shop, and cremation society.
David stayed in Tennessee until he sold all of the businesses to embrace a slower pace as a “small-town funeral director.” Thus, he came to Indiana to buy some funeral homes. He is now the proud owner of Gerts, Windler & Keller Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Brook, Fowler, and Goodland, as well as Shelby & Keller Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Covington.
His goal is to be dedicated to personal family service and not become a conglomerate or factory. For him, it was obvious that if he had more than one funeral home, he could compete with the large corporations and still be very active in my business. The economy of scale also allows him to give the most compassionate pricing...GUARANTEED!
David is a certified cremationist, funeral director, and embalmer, who will always try to stay active in the community while giving back to those who help sustain his locally-owned business.
Bill and his wife, Cindy, enjoy spending time with their four children and six grandchildren. They have two dogs, Chloe & Ollie. They managed their rental property business after they both retired.
Bill is a retired executive from WalMart, and Cindy is retired from Archer, Daniel & Midland. They attend St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kentland.
Though work took them to other places, the family is originally from Benton County, which is where they, ultimately, came back to live.
While Bill is passionate about serving others in their time of need, he has also remodeled the funeral homes and helps maintain them. He is unbelievably handy and has brought the chapels up to date rather quickly.

He married Helen Frances Moudy, and they have two sons, Robert Irvin and Douglas Francis.
