Covington - Willard G. Williams, 96 died at 11:00 a. m. Thursday February 7, 2013 at The Waters of Covington. He was born in Covington October 11, 1916 the son of Calvin and Clara (Brewer) Williams.
He attended Covington Schools and was a life resident. Willard was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a carpenter and building contractor all of his life. He served on Covington Volunteer Fire Department and the Covington Police Department. He started the Covington Fourth of July Celebration and the Fountain County War Museum at Veedersburg. He was Covington Civil Defense Director and a former member of the Park Board. Willard attended Orchard Hills Church of Christ. He had a band for several years the "Covington Dropouts. He was a life member of and Past Commander of Fulton Banta Post #291 American Legion and VFW Post 2395.
Willard married Dorothy Moudy April 21, 1946 at Covington and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Jerry (Carolyn) Williams of Cayuga; Brenda (Claude) Everson of Covington; Charlotte Martin of Westville, IL; David (Kathy) Williams of Covington; nine grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, many nieces and nephews. His parents and a daughter Connie preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. Sunday at Shelby Funeral Home. Graveside services Monday February 11, 2013 at 11:00 a. m. in Mt. Hope Cemetery with Tom Hunter officiating.
