Virginia Mae Smail, 86 died at 5:00 a. m. Friday January 10, 2014 at Presence USMC, Danville, IL following an extended illness.
She was born April 18, 1927 at Barnard, IN the daughter of Carl N. and Clova P. (Dean) James.
Virginia moved to Covington from Rockville in 1940 and was a 1945 graduate of Covington High School. Her memberships included First Church of Christ, Psi Iota Xi Gamma Epsilon Chapter, and Coffeenians. She had been employed at Dr. Suzukis office, Big Four R. R., Clerks office, was a former Deputy Recorder of Fountain County, and retired from Fountain Trust Company after 35 years as a teller.
Virginia married Sherman Eugene (Lennie) Smail June 8, 1946 in Covington and he survives. Also surviving is a son James Michael Smail, a daughter Rebecca (Kenneth) Baker, a brother Jerry D. (Carolyn) James, all of Covington, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her parents and a granddaughter preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be Monday January 13, 2014 at 11:00 a. m. EST at Shelby Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. Sunday.
