Vernon Edward Hopper, 83, of Covington died at 11:30 A. M. Wednesday August 13, 2014 at Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Vernon was born September 13, 1930 near Covington the son of Millard and Esther (Price) Clawson. He was a resident of Covington most of his life and had resided at Rossville, Mulberry and Colfax. He was a 1948 graduate of Colfax High School.
He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed at TeePak, GM, and was a truck driver for Bob Moudy and Schneider Trucking. Vernon operated his own upholstery shop for 20 years and retired in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bow and arrow, and playing guitar with the Wabash Valley Boys and Cruse Brothers.
Vernon married June Redenbaugh February 15, 1963 at Danville, IL and she survives. Also surviving is a son James Breeden, Jr. of Covington; a daughter Christy Cruse of Covington, a son-in-law Michael Cruse of Bloomingdale, IN; a sister Rosella (Kenneth) Ratcliff of Leesburg, FL; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. His parents, a daughter Jamie Morris, 2 sons, Marty and Clyde Hopper preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at Shelby Funeral Home Sunday August 17, 2014 from 1:00 P. M. until time of services at 3:00 P. M.
