Thomas “Tom” Wayne Frey, 82, of Covington, peacefully passed away on January 2nd, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born the son of Virginia Clair (Faust) and Charles Franklin Frey on March 6, 1942. Tom was a longtime Covington resident and active member of the community; he was a member of the VFW Post #2395, Covington United Methodist Church, Clinton Lion’s Club, and Clinton First United Methodist Church. He was also an elected official serving on the Troy Township Advisory Board. Tom was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Valley of Terre Haute Scottish Rite and Fountain Lodge #60 F&AM..
Tom grew up in Covington, graduating from Covington High School in 1960. He attended Indiana State University before joining the United States Navy where he served over four years including the Gulf of Tonkin. In November 1966, he married his wife, Sandra. Tom worked in sales/management at Monninger Concrete Block in Terre Haute, Indiana and Steel Grip Safety Apparel in Danville, Illinois until his retirement in 2008. In his free time, he volunteered at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum, the backpack program for elementary children through the Clinton First United Methodist Church, was an avid golfer (with two career holes-in-one), and enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, craft beer, wine, and making his friends and family laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Richard and Jerry. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Starkey) Frey; two children, Michael Frey (Melissa) and Kelly Siddiqui (Peter); three granddaughters, Olivia Frey, Anna and Sophia Siddiqui, sisters, Judy Caviglia (Mario), Suzy Allen (Denny), and Kathy Fields (Mark); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Covington United Methodist Church, the Covington Community Foundation or the VFW Post #2395.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 1 to 3 P.M. (EST) with a masonic service at 3 P.M. and a celebration of life to follow all held at Covington United Methodist Church.
