Talmadge Ray Wimpy McDaniel, 83, of Covington died at 3:17 P. M. Saturday July 26, 2014 at his home with his wife and children by his side.
He was born in Winthrop, IN December 5, 1930 the son of Carl and Pearl (Whittus) McDaniel.
Wimpy was a resident of Covington most of his life, except a few years in Attica. He attended Covington Schools and served in the Army in Korea. He operated Wimpys Dairy Land on the Square in Covington for many years and retired in 2012.
Wimpywas a member of First Baptist Church, Danville Coin Club, and collected coins for many years. He served on the board of directors of WFOF Radio for many years.
Wimpy married Nancy Kenny November 1, 1953 at Covington First Baptist Church and she survives. Also Surviving are two daughters, Beth (Warren) Allen of Linton, IN; Brenda (Bruce) Ford of Greenwood, IN; 2 sons, Tom Laverty, and Tim (Tami) McDaniel, both of Covington; 13 grandchildren, Becky (David) Lehman, David (Casie) Allen, Daniel (Jessie) Allen, Joseph Allen, Jon (Jennifer) Allen, Rachel Allen, Stephen (Ashley) Ford, Stephanie (Adam) Schott, Paul Laverty, Courtney Schmid, Mackenzie Schmid, Ali Schmid, and Claire McDaniel; 8 great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Liza, Macie, Beau, Lane, Kendall, Lilly, and Iann; many nieces and nephews. His parents and a son Bruce preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P. M. Monday at First Baptist Church, Fifth and Harrison Streets. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P. M. Tuesday July 29, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Warren Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
