Roy Edward Ponder, 74 of rural Veedersburg died at 6:50 a. m. Monday October 31, 2011 at The Waters of Covington. He was born October 4, 1937 at Danville, IL the son of Luther and Freda Pauline (Hughes) Ponder, Sr.
He attended Oakwood Schools, and lived at Danville until moving to Veedersburg in 1971. He was employed at Hyster for 33 years, retiring in 1995. His memberships include: Anchor Lodge #980 A. F. & A. M., Danville Valley of Scottish Rite. Roy enjoyed collecting toys after retiring.
Roy married Carol S. Pollock June 1, 1956, they divorced, and she survives. Surviving are two sons, Stephen W. (Tina) Ponder, and Randy (Toni) Ponder, both of Veedersburg; 2 brothers, Robert D. (Pat) Ponder of Covington; and Luther Ponder, Jr. of Veedersburg; 4 grandchildren, Natalie (David) Rice, Renee (Joe) Pridemore, Jacob (Summer) Fowler, and Mallory Ponder; a great granddaughter, Emilee Rice. His parents and a sister, Nancy Houser preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a. m. Thursday November 3, 2011 at Shelby Funeral Home with Bill Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p. m.
