Richard "Rick" Lee Robertson

Richard ‘Rick’ Lee Robertson, 74, of Covington, Indiana passed away on March 23, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 16, 1950, in Jonesboro, AR, to Leo and Mary Ann Robertson, both deceased.

He is survived by his wife, Patti; three step children, Anderson (Emily) Adams of Clinton, ME, Susan (Dan) Scullion of Sunshine Coast, QLD, and Creighton Adams of Columbus, OH; and two grandchildren, Owen Ogburn and Aria Adams. Also surviving are four siblings, Dennis Robertson of Downers Grove, IL, Cathy Gaul (Bob) of Nix, MO, Sandy Winters of Marion, KY, and Rodney Robertson of Lapeer, MI. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Robertson, and also had a son, Ryan Robertson.

Rick was a Vietnam combat veteran. He served 18 months in Vietnam before returning home to attend Northern Illinois University. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, he continued   on to a distinguished career serving adults with developmental disabilities. In 1997 Rick met the love of his life, Patti. Rick and Patti married in 2009 in Las Vegas, and they continued to visit Las Vegas every year to celebrate.

Rick was known for his joking nature and love for the great outdoors. He had a passion for camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He enjoyed several hunting trips with his stepsons. He traveled with his step daughter across the Top End of Australia along the length of the Gibb River Road. He took his family across the country on a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. He traveled to all 50 US states and hiked many sections of the Appalachian Trail. Rick loved telling stories, especially tall tales, and had an incredible sense of humor. He was generous in spirit and was always willing to help others.

Rick’s family loved him deeply and always will. He lives on in their hearts.

Rick requested that no services be held for him but that he be remembered for his love of life. In lieu of flowers, financial contributions in memory of Rick can be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at https://appalachiantrail.org/.
