Richard Lee Zeigler 69, of the Yeddo area passed away at 12:47 a.m. Monday April 15, 2019, in the Lafayette Franciscan Hospital. He was born January 25, 1950 at Crawfordsville to John and Elsie (Trosper) Zeigler. He was a 1968 graduate of Fountain Central High School and a 1970 graduate of ITT Technical Institute. Richard was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He married Stacey A. Hasselbring April 13, 1996 in their home. He retired after 28 years from Harrison Steel as a Supervisor in 2016. He was a Boy Scout Leader as his sons were growing up.
Richard enjoyed Trap shooting, mushroom hunting, ginsenging and fishing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University Basketball fan.
Survivors include his Mother Elsie Naylor of Cayuga, wife Stacey, 5 sons; Scott Zeigler of Hawaii, Alan (Deanna) Zeigler of Yeddo, Bradley (Brittany) Zeigler of Riverside, IN. and Aaron Zeigler of Williamsport, IN. A daughter, Logan Zeigler at home. Two Step-sons; Jason (Ashley Britton) Carter of Covington and Cory (Mychael) Carter of Georgetown, IL. Two sisters; Rose (Duane) Schaeffhold and Phyllis (Roger) Bowling both of Covington, also 16 Grandchildren, a Great-Grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Taylor.
Visitation will be Thursday April 18, 2019, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Shelby Funeral Home of Covington. Funeral Service is Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home with Pastor Loren Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Centennial Cemetery near Yeddo, with Military Graveside Rites by the Veedersburg American Legion and U.S. Air Force.
