Raymond Melton Earlywine

Raymond Melton Earlywine, 87 peacefully passed away at 12:35 a. m. Monday May 2, 2011 with his family by his side. Raymond fought a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born August 24, 1923 to William & Maude Albright Earlywine in Seelyville, IN. Raymond is survived by four children, Sharon (Randy) McAtee, Tulsa, OK, Donna (Larry) McIntosh, Perrysville, Marvin (Pam) Earlywine and Wayne Earlywine, both of Veedersburg. Four step-children also survive Darrell (Jane) Bowers, Cathy (John) Lawson, Sue (Paul) McKinney, and Beth Jones. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Opal Kwozalla, Lexington, KY, Clara Buckle, Lockhaven, PA and Pauline Jodry, Martinsville, IL, a sister-in-law Phyllis Earlywine, Perrysville. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, and five brothers, Walter, Virgil, Charles, Rex and Marvin Earlywine, 2 brothers-in-law, Bill Jodry and Jesse Buckle, sister-in-laws, Goldie, Millie, & Irene Earlywine. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Raised on a farm in Illinois near Clarks Center, Ray quit school early and joined the United States Army, serving in Japan during World War Two. He worked as a tool & die setter until retiring in 1985 when Allith plant re-located from Danville, IL.
He married Mae Boseiger July 6, 1946 and shared 45 years of marriage with her until her death June 28, 1988. He later married Jenny Bowers, they shared 10 years together before her death March 7, 2004. He was member of the Covington and Perrysville American Legion. He was also an avid sports fan, watching every Cub baseball game, and enjoyed Purdue and Indiana basketball. In recent years he became a Nascar fan and watched many of the races with his family. He was an antique car buff and owned several Model T cars, his last Model T was a 1923 Touring Car that he bought because it was the model of the year he was born.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p. m. Thursday May 5, 2011 at the Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Mike Earlywine officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors by Walter Hoyt American Legion Post. Visitation will be Noon till the funeral service. The family wishes to thank the VA Medical Hospital of Danville for the care and kindness through Rays many years of care at the facility, and a special thank you to Serenity Hospice, and Dr. Elliot. Ray wore many different hats in his lifetime, which were son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and wore them all with integrity and honor.
