Paula Jean Stoup

June 3, 1953 — October 3, 2023

Phoenix, AZ

Paula Jean Stoup, 70, of Phoenix, AZ passed away peacefully at home, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, surrounded by her husband, Dwight, and family.

Paula was born June 3, 1953 in Danville, IL, daughter of Paul Gritton and Delores (Pratt) McBee. She graduated from Danville High School with the class of 1971. She had interest in becoming a nurse. She didn’t end up pursing that career path however it would become evident that she would pursue a life of service to others.

Paula met Dwight Stoup the night before the blizzard of 1978. Then on February 24, 1979, Paula married Dwight at Trinty Lutheran in Danville, IL. Their first years were spent in Tilton, IL until 1988 when the family moved to Indianapolis, IN. This is where Paula began work at ATA Airlines, and over the next 11 years she held various roles (crew services, fuel). In 2000, Paula and Dwight moved to Phoenix, AZ where she took a role as a Base Administrator. It was at ATA where she developed a love for traveling. She had the opportunity to travel to Cairo, Egypt, and crisscrossed the United States and Mexico. Some of her favorite trips included Maui, Ixtapa, Puerto Vallarta, Aruba, Seattle, San Franciso, San Diego, and Santa Fe (among many other places). Later in life, she made it a priority to spend summers in Minnesota.

For the past 11 years, Paula worked at St. Mark Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her time at St. Mark as the Campus Administrator and Christian Care Coordinator and built many strong relationships.

Paula loved spending quality time with family, especially the grandkids and great grandkids. Taking the grandkids to the pool, ball games, and to the park brought a huge smile to her face. In addition to her family time, hiking, game night, and her Christian faith brought joy to her life.

Paula will be greatly missed by her husband, Dwight; two sons, Steve (Madonna) Cravens of Attica, IN, Eric (Teresa) Stoup of Rogers, MN; brother, Paul Gritton of Danville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Kylie (Jeremiah) Smith, Cole (Selena) Cravens, Katelin, Maggie, and Tobias Stoup; 3 great grandchildren, Hazel, Stormi, and Nola Cravens.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Claudia Coultas.

A graveside service will be held at 11am EST, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Lower Mound Cemetery 15462 North County Road 200 East, Covington, IN 47932 with Pastor Kent Tibbin officiating.

Arrangements entrusted to Shelby & Keller Funeral Home, 622 Third St., Covington, IN  47932  (765) 793-2221  www.shelbykellerfh.com
