Norman Scott Clem, 91, of Covington died Friday April 1, 2022 at Franciscan East Hospital, Lafayette. He was born November 18, 1930 at Danville, IL the son of Malcom and Ruth (Moss) Clem.
Norm, as he was known, attended Daniel School and graduated from Danville High School in 1948. He was a Navy musician from 1950 to 1954, serving in Korea 1952 and 1953 aboard the USS Missouri with Unit Band #183. He was employed as a toolmaker at GE and Valmont for forty-two years before retiring. His hobbies were music, golf, playing euchre and poker. He was a member of Walter Hoyt Post #350 American Legion.
Norman married Oveta L. Allen Alward on December 2, 1962 in Covington and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Laura S. (Darrell) Lawson, and Michael A. (Terry) Clem, two step children, Rita L. (Robert) Wallace, and Tina J. (Kevin) Hari; three grandchildren, Caitlin Lawson, Madison Lawson, Emily Clem, three step grandchildren, Ryan Wallace, Courtney Wallace and Jesse Alward. Two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His parents, a brother, a sister and a stepson preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Thursday April 7, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Shelby Funeral Home with the Funeral service at 4:00 P. M. EDT, with Andy Harkleroad officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors by the Navy and American Legion. Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com .
