“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.” Nellie Laughhunn (Noggle), 101 years young, of Cayuga, died June 5, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Indianapolis. She was born April 23,1920 in Newport, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer and Rozella (Sykes, Brown) Noggle. She graduated from Newport High School. During WWII she ran the Cayuga Farmers Market where she met her future husband, Delbert (Mike) Laughhunn. They were married January 6, 1945 at the Methodist parsonage in Newport, Indiana. They had one daughter, Dr. Linda Houser, of Indianapolis.
She is survived by her daughter, her grandson Michael John Houser of Carmel, and her great grandchildren Cicely and Blake. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson (Tim Houser), three nephews (Bill, Ken, and Vernal Noggle), one niece (Debbie Sprouls-Nolte) and six siblings: Lavonne Erdmann of Ridgefarm, Forrest (Bud) Noggle of Georgetown, Lucille Noggle (child), Wayne Noggle (infant), Ruth Sprouls of Perrysville, and Paul Noggle of Georgetown.
Nellie’s life was full of traditions like family gatherings, fishing, easter egg hunts, and Christmas. She was an outstanding cook and love to make treats for others. Just a few days before her death she prepared strawberry preserves to give away to friends and neighbors. She, however, was best know for her homemade noodles which earned her the nickname “Nellie Noodles.” At one time she prepared over 2000 bags in one year to share with friends and neighbors far and wide
A graveside service will be held at the Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 1:00 P. M. EST for all friends and family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when all are invited to come and share their wonderful memories of a life well lived. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” – Thomas Campbell
