Michael Wayne Kingrey, 61, of Danville left this life at 11:33 a.m. (March 15, 2015) at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he had been a patient for a few days following an extended illness.
Mike was born on July 27, 1953 in Danville to the late Clyde and Annie (Wright) Kingrey.
He began his education at Union Corner School and later at Westville High, transferring to Georgetown High from where he graduated in 1971. Mike was a Viet Nam era Army Veteran.
He married the late Charlotte Cook in 1973 from which they had three children, Duane (Stephanie) Kingrey, twins Darcie Kingrey and Darin (Dawn) Kingrey. Mike later married Julie Walters in 1980 from which was born Shelby Alyse Kingrey, the apple of his eye and daddys girl forever and always.
For many years Mike enjoyed doing what he loved, painting rail cars at Pullman Frieghtcar Services in Danville. While there he was a proud active member of the UAW where he served as President of the union. Once Pullman closed, Mike worked in Ohio laying fiber optics under his good friend, the late Gary Shaw. The past 7 years he was surrounded by family and friends at the Friendly Tavern, where he found his second family, the owners Mike and Ruthie Sullivan.
Mike was a macho-man with the most loving heart anyone could ever come to know. He enjoyed camping at Forest Glen, spending time with his grandson Brenden, playing the steel guitar and other string instruments, listening to REAL country music, and sitting around with his friends and family telling lies. He was a huge NASCAR and IndyCar fan and his all-time favorite driver was NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt.
Mike is survived by two brothers, Mark Kingrey, and Randy (Stacy) Kingrey, Uncle Cecil (Nel) Kingrey, cousins John Kingrey, and Sabrina (Bob) Donelly, six grandchildren, Makayla and DJ, Emilee and Katy, Darin II, and Brenden Paul-Michael. Also surviving is Mikes fianc of five years, Jodie Frey. Jodie was Mikes love, support, and caregiver the last year of his life for which those who knew will be forever grateful.
