Merle Chester Suiters

Covington Merle Chester Suiters, 89 died at 8:25 a. m. Thursday September 2, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. He was born August 11, 1921 in Wabash Township the son of the late Purlie Chester and Edith Lucille Brewer Suiters.
He graduated from Perrysville High School in 1939 and attended Indiana Normal College. Merle served in the Navy in World War II. He was a life resident of Covington until moving to Indianapolis in 2003. He was a member and elder emeritus of Covington First Church of Christ and attended Traders Point Christian Church at Whitestown. He served over 20 years on the Covington Community School Board, later was a member of the Covington School Holding Corporation, a director of West Central Evangelistic Association (Hanging Rock), on the advisory committee of Fountain Trust Company. He received an art award from the dArlier Cultural Center for his designs for the Veedersburg Library.
Merle married Elizabeth Hunt October 18, 1941 at Veedersburg and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Michael (Loretta) Suiters of Covington, Carol (Stephen) Tipton and Nancy Suiters, both of Indianapolis, a brother Gordon Suiters of Covington, 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at First Church of Christ with Randy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors by the VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be 3:00 to 7:00 p. m. Saturday at Shelby Funeral Home. Memorials suggested to St. Vincent Hospice with envelopes available at the funeral home.
