Mary Jo Hines, 67, Covington, IN, died after a battle with small cell carcinoma Sept. 15, 2014, at IU Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, IN.
A service will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. at St. Helen Community Baptist Church, with Pastor Ken Peterson officiating.
Cremation has taken place at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, IN.
She was born in Clinton, IA, Dec. 18, 1946, to Edward Milton and Mildred Grace (Willams) Sikkema.
She had lived in Covington, IN; Flint and St. Helen, MI. She obtained a bachelors degree in speech pathology from Purdue University and worked as a speech therapist for 35 years. In June, 2012, she retired from the Roscommon Area Public Schools district. She attended St. Helen Community Baptist Church. She was known as a dedicated teacher and loving mother and grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ed and Grace Sikkema.
Surviving Mrs. Hines are her children and step-children, Jenna Grace MacKillop of Covington, IN, Jessica Barbara MacKillip of St. Helen and Miranda Joy Hines of Covington, IN; and grandchildren, Kayla Jo Hawkins, Elzora Liisa Karlsson and Starla Grace Halo Karlsson.
