Marilyn Madalene Woodrow, 88, of Greenfield, IN, formerly of Covington, IN, passed away December 25, 2024 at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. Marilyn was born August 23, 1936 in her family’s home, a twin to Caroline Maxine, daughter of Harlan and Eva (Richardson) McLain. Marilyn attended Rabb School for grades 1-8, then graduated as Valedictorian from Perrysville High School in May, 1954. While in high school, Marilyn served as class president, treasurer, and secretary, was a majorette, member of numerous choirs and in school musicals, Drama and Camera clubs, yearbook staff, and was Campus Queen. She and her twin Carolyn sang at numerous school and community events.
Marilyn married Kevin Woodrow at Benson Chapel Church October 16, 1955. In their early married years, Marilyn stayed home to raise her three boys, Jeff, Brian, and Mark. After her boys went to school, Marilyn worked as a secretary in the Fountain County Court House in the Welfare Office, and later in the Fountain County 4-H Extension Office. In 1977, Marilyn went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture in the Agricultural Soil and Conservation Service. She retired in 1997 after 20 years of service.
Marilyn served her community as a 50-year member of the Salem United Methodist Church, where she gave countless hours of her time and talent, as a soloist, member of the choir, and Sunday school teacher and mentor. Marilyn was a 40-year member of Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority, a fellowship of women dedicated to enhancing the community through initiatives in art, literature, music and speech.
In her free time, Marilyn loved watching her boys play sports and was their biggest fan in the stands. She loved to read, garden, cook, swim, travel, and spend time with family and friends. Kevin and Marilyn made many trips to foreign countries visiting exotic places. When grandchildren came along, Marilyn loved playing with the little ones. She was no stranger to Hot Wheels, Legos, Barbies or tea parties, and would spend hours reading books to grandkids and playing make-believe.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Kevin, 89, of Greenfield, and three sons, Jeffery (Nancy) of Kingston Springs, TN; Brian (Anecea) of Charlottesville, IN; and Mark (Rae Ann) of Indianapolis, IN. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews, as well as six grandchildren: Angela Ohrn (Nick) of Las Vegas, NV; Aaron Woodrow of Nashville, TN; Hayden Woodrow of Kingston Springs, TN; Madeline Woodrow of Chicago, IL; Olivia Woodrow of Indianapolis, IN; and Gavin Woodrow of Indianapolis, IN. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patsy (Bruce) Gee and Carolyn (Bob) Barnes.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, with funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM, December 29, 2024 at the funeral home, the interment will be private with Pastor Rob Robbins to officiate. Memorials in Marilyn’s memory may be made to the Salem Community Church, 1651 W Salem Church Road, Covington, IN, 47932.
