Leafa Mitchell, 98, of Covington died at 11:57 A. M. Sunday November 4, 2018 at the Hawthorne Inn, Danville, where she had resided for four years. She was born March 24, 1920 in Wabash Township, Covington the daughter of Homer and Elizabeth (Vitalie) Abernathy.
Leafa attended Stringtown and Perrysville Schools, was a life resident of Fountain County and a farm wife. She was a member of Stringtown Church of God and Fountain Chapter OES, Kingman.
Leafa married Layman W. Mitchell September 20, 1941 at Covington and he died March 4, 1987. Surviving is a daughter Lou Ann (Tom) Gibson of Danville, IL; daughter-in-law Kelly Mitchell of Veedersburg; three grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) Edgington, Andrew (Kylie) Mitchell, Trent (Britney) Mitchell; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Henry; a brother Leon Abernathy of Covington and a sister Marlis Morgan of Houston, TX. She was also preceded in death by her son Mark, her parents, her sisters, Leah (twin), and Reva, and three brothers, Orville, Glay, and Lloyd.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. EST Wednesday November 7, 2018 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Pastor Keith Klossner officiating. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation 1:00 P. M. EST to 2:00 P. M. EST before services. Memorials requested to Alzheimer’s Association or Walther Cancer Foundation with envelopes available at Shelby Funeral Home.
