Veedersburg, IN. Judith K. Briggs, 70 of Punta Gorda and Veedersburg, IN. Passed away at 7:35 pm Sunday July 20, 2014 in Fawcett Memorial Hospital of Port Charlotte, FL.
She was born May 29, 1944 to Henry and Betty (Gibson) Ellis. In her early years Judie enjoyed stock car racing with her 1st husband, Ben Carnaghi. She then went on to enjoy Revolutionary War Reenactments with her then husband Craig Briggs and special friend Sherri. Her final enjoyment was Florida, boating on the Peace River with her Fianc Jim Norton. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and was all smiles when it came to her great-grandchildren. Her plants and flowers were also kids to her, as she was always nurturing them. Her favorite pastime was to lay out by the pool and soak up the sun. Judie liked attending community and family functions, as she always added a special touch to any party she attended.
Judie attended Union Corner Grade School and Westville High School, graduating in 1962.
Judies memberships included the 42nd Regiment of the Revolutionary War Reenactments, the Elks Lodge and Navigator Boat Club, both of Punta Gorda.
She started out working as a car hop at Mikes Grill, then went on to be co-owner of Carnaghi Towing of Danville, IL. Judie then took up hairdressing, after graduating from Cosmetology School.
Survivors include: Fianc Jim Norton, her brother Derald Duck (Connie) Ellis, son Brian (Cindy) Carnaghi, daughter Beth (D.G.) Washkowiak. Step-children: Staci (Gary) Cox, Robyn (Bette) Briggs, Tim and Marc Norton. Grandchildren: Sara (Brandon Crawford) Carnaghi, Ryan Washkowiak, Dalton Trimble, Natasha Vrablic, T.J. and Lindsey Norton, Garrett and Gavin Cox. Great-grandchildren: Chase, Chance and Avayah. Brothers-in-law: Murray Jones, David M. (Bettie) Briggs, John B. (Elaine) Briggs. Her extended family: Judy Mitchell, Tina Bradfield, Sherri Boswell, Cindy Mayoras, Mike & Karen Gibson, Kay Tomelson, Bill, Donnie, Ronnie and Kevin Goetzelman and Darren Ellis. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Clark Baker, her sister Sharon Jones, step-sister Cherre Brown and her two husbands Ben Carnaghi and Craig Briggs.
A celebration of Judies life will be held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, IN. from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (IL. Time) With Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m. (IL. Time) with Bill Cook, officiating.
