Covington

John Raymond Fulton, age 84, of Covington, Indiana, passed away early Saturday morning, November 2, 2024, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, with his beloved wife and loving daughters at his side.

Born December 11, 1939, on the family farm in Edgar County, Illinois, John was the eldest son of the late Hobart Wendell and Helen Ilene (Helt) Fulton. He attended a one-room schoolhouse through third grade, graduating from Scotland School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17 and then also served in the Illinois National Guard and the Army Reserves. John married the love of his life, Marsha Ann Berger, on September 25, 1960, at Benson Chapel in Covington, Indiana. John first met Marsha on a blind date with lifelong friends in January 1960. John has left an incredible legacy for his family through his love for God, devotion to family and friends, sense of humor, and relentless work ethic, providing a tremendous example to all. His advice for a happy life included loving God above all else and loving your spouse and family more than yourself. His advice was shown daily as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He was known for having a mischievous streak, being kind, loving, and having a generous spirit that lit up every room he entered. John was a lifelong member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and a diehard University of Illinois and St. Louis Cardinal fan. He also enjoyed restoring tractors and cars, as well as building and flying airplanes. The Fly Baby was his pride and joy, having flown to the Oshkosh International Airshow for over thirty years and being recognized in the Circle of Honor. John still farmed the land his family had worked since 1813 and loved sharing stories of his life on the farm. His first tractor was a 1936 John Deere A, given to him by his father when he was a young boy of eight.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Ann Fulton; two daughters, Julie Renee (Michael) Grott, Covington, and her children: Kyle (Katie) Grott, Kaitlin (Joseph) Jagiello, Kelly (Andrew) Koivuniemi; Jill Rae Fulton, Covington, and her children: Tanner (Jessica) Coffing, Tyler (Jakob) Coffing, and Trace Coffing; four great-grandchildren: Evelyn Winfield Grott, Michael Edward Jagiello, John Wilder Koivuniemi, and Noah Rae Coffing; brother, Richard Fulton; sisters, Karen Van Abrahams, and Jeanine Conway, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
