Covington John Raymond Mose Bodine, 76 went to be with the Lord Wednesday March 2, 2011 at the Roudebush V A Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born April 14, 1934 in Danville, IL the son of Ray and Sybil (Norris) Bodine. He married Charlotte McVay June 12, 1959 and they were married 52 happy years. She survives.
From this union came 3 lovely children, Steven (deceased), Diana (Tim) Niccum and Thomas (Susan) Bodine. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Heather Ball and Michael (Jorie) Miller; and three step grandchildren, Tasha (Robbie Woolwine) Niccum, Brandi Niccum and Zach Niccum; three great grandchildren, Alexandria and Austin Ball, Brandon Miller, 3 step great grandchildren , Nichole and Alex Shea and Brionna Niccum. He loved them all so much. John had 4 very special friends, Charles and Cheryl Watts, Fred and Carlotta Auter. John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald.
John was a member of Pleasant Grove Bible Chapel, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, of which he was president for many years. He was a 50 year member of Fountain Lodge #60 F & A M, and American Federation of Government Employees.
He retired from the Danville Veterans Affairs Hospital after 32 years and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He loved sports and was a fan of the Covington Trojans, Chicago Cubs, and Indiana University. John loved to fish and play golf.
He was a 1952 graduate of Covington High School. He also played baseball and basketball for the House of David, touring all over the country.
A celebration of Johns life will be at 11:00 a. m. EST Monday March 7, 2011 at Shelby Funeral Home. Pastors Herbert Smith, Jack Wagoner, Doug McCord, and Lloyd Curry will officiate. Burial will follow in Danville National Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. EST Sunday at Shelby Funeral Home.
