Jeffrey D. Orr, 64, late of Covington, IN, passed this world on January 24, 2014, at the VA Illiana Health Care Center, Palliative Care Unit, Danville, IL, surrounded by his loving family, following a brave battle with brain cancer. He was born August 14, 1949 in Goffstown, NH, and was the son of R. Rex and Mary Virginia Ginger Orr.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents and his seven siblings, Bonnie (Robert) Wright, Randall (Nancy) Orr, Diane Hughes, Leonard (Marsha) Orr, Joanne Orr (husband, Danny Milhon), Susan (Joseph) Henderson, and Karen Orr (husband, Larry Fisher), all residents of Indiana. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Jeff was a 1967 graduate of Covington High School, Covington, IN. He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was formerly a long-time resident of Cincinnati, OH, where he was a faithful and active member of the Tri-County Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed computers and earned an Associates Degree from Southern Ohio College in electronic engineering technology in 1988. He later attended truck-driving school and retired as an over-the-road truck-driver/owner.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 27, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Andy Martin officiating and with military honors presented by Veedersburg American Legion Post. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the VA Illiana Health Care System, Attn: Volunteer Services Palliative Care Unit, 1900 E. Main, Danville, IL 61832, with Jeff Orr noted in the memo line; or to the charity of the readers choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family is grateful for the kind and loving care given Jeff by all the members of the Palliative Care Unit at the VA.
