James M. Rick, 88, of Covington, IN passed away peacefully at 1:20 P. M. Friday April 15, 2016 at the Waters of Covington. He was with family. Jim was born November 27, 1927 in Morrison, IL to George and Margaret (Watt) Rick.
He graduated from Morrison High School and served four years in the U. S. Navy aboard a Destroyer in the Atlantic Ocean. After completing his service in the Navy Jim attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, where he received a Bachelors Degree in journalism.
He started work as a reporter with the Danville Commercial News and worked at the paper until his retirement. He won numerous awards as a journalist.
Jim loved the New York Yankees, and the Chicago Bears, music, and buying and planting flowers for his wife. He will be missed.
Jim married Sue Ellen Mallett on December 6, 1958 at Benson Chapel. They were married for fifty-six years. Sue passed away on April 8, 2016. Jim followed her exactly one week later. He did not want to live without his wife.
They are survived by two sons, Reagan (Ellen) Rick of Orlando, FL and Mark Rick of Ninevah, IN; a sister Arlene Babe (Dennis) Burkholder of Morrison, IL; three granddaughters, Melissa Rick of Mountain View, CA; Rebecca Rick of Salt Lake City, UT; Kaley Rick of Orlando, FL. His parents and two brothers, Kenny and Bob preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Monday April 18, 2016 at 7:00 P. M. EDT at Shelby Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4:00 P. M. until time of services at 7:00 P. M. Cremation will follow services.
