James Edward Parrett, 90 of Covington died at 11:00 a. m. Thursday October 11, 2012 at home. He was born in Covington on February 15, 1922 the son of the late Herbert D. and Marie H. (Murphy) Parrett.
Jim was a 1940 graduate of Covington High School. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1941 and served 20 years on submarines, retiring in 1961. He was a nursing assistant at Danville VA Hospital 20 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the American Legion.
Jim married Evelyn A. Tangen September 11, 1954 at Indianapolis and she died November 9, 2007. He is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Jason) Hayman of Covington, Debbie (David) Clabaugh of Champaign, IL, a son Herbert (Kim) Parrett of Elkin NC; a wonderful sister Betty Jo (Alan) Switzer of Covington; 11 amazing grandchildren, and a great grandson. His family meant the world to him.
He loved working in his yard and was a huge I U basketball and Colts fan. He enjoyed all animals, especially his cat tiger.
Memorials requested to Covington Community Foundation or Humane Society.
Graveside services will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at 2:00 p. m. Monday October 15, 2012 with Pastor Robert Fairchild officiating and military honors by the Navy and American Legion.
