Jack H Dennis

Jack H. Dennis, 98, of Gessie died at 9:47 A. M. Thursday March 15, 2018 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville. He was born December 12, 1919 at Danville, IL the son of Garsa L. and Gertrude C. (Hagen) Dennis.

Jack was a 1937 graduate of Perrysville High School and Utterbach Business College. He entered the Army October 24, 1941 and served in Africa and Europe during World War II before being discharged August 30, 1945.  He was employed at C & E I, Davies Packing, Stan Ray and Hyster for fourteen years, retiring in 1986.  A fifty-five year member of Perrysville American Legion, he enjoyed helping with their bingo, his family and gardening.  He was a member of Gessie United Methodist Church.

Jack married Mona Leona Sprouls April 18, 1946 at Perrysville and she died July 14, 2014. Surviving are two daughters, Vickie (Ron) Weddle of Fairmount, IL and Barbara (David) Orten of Houston, TX; three sisters, Dorothy Strawser of Veedersburg, Joann (Jack) Smith of Rockford, IL and Connie (Bill) Minick of Veedersburg; four grandchildren, Stephanie Andrew, Brock Terrell, Beau Orton, Wendee (David) Galloway; two step grandchildren, Ronnie Weddle, Wendy Weddle.  Also surviving are five great granddaughters, Jordyn, Braelyn, Cameryn, Caysee, and Shelby; a step great grandson, Zach Weddle; two step great-great grandsons, Jackson and Deeklan.  His parents, three sisters, Mary Reynolds, Doris Boyer, Sue Lawrence and two brothers Darrell and Bill Dennis preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A. M. EDT Tuesday March 20, 2018 at Shelby Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Fairchild officiating. Burial in Lower Mound Cemetery with military honors by the U S Army and Perrysville American Legion.   Visitation 5:00 to 8:00 P. M.
