Helen Frances Shelby, 90, of Covington died at 8:00 P. M. Thursday November 15, 2018 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital, Crawfordsville. She was born July 2, 1928 at Foster, Warren County, Indiana the daughter of Claude Irvin and Bertha Agnes (Gouty) Moudy.
Helen grew up in the Hopewell area, graduating from Perrysville High School in 1946. She was an LPN at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, IL twenty-five years. She was active in the LPN Association of Illinois, serving as convention chairman for eleven years.
Her memberships include: St Joseph Catholic Church of Covington, Treasurer of the Rosary and Altar society; past state historian of DAR; Past Regent of Richard Henry Lee Chapter DAR; current member of Governor Bradford Chapter DAR, Danville, IL; Past President of the Active and Associate Chapters of Tri Kappa Sorority; Past President and member of the board of St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary; active in Covington Business Association, serving as Applefest Chairman several years. She assisted at our family funeral home for over fifty years.
Helen married Robert B. Shelby May 16, 1948 at the Covington United Methodist Church and they enjoyed seventy wonderful years together this year. She is survived by Bob, two sons, Robert I. of San Antonio, TX, Douglas F. of Veedersburg, IN and a grandson William R. of Universal City, TX. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edna Belle Shelby, Donald R. and Martha Shelby, Virginia Bennett, Emma Lou and Richard Davis, Mary Hoagland, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, and three sisters; Alma Moudy, Eva Young and Lois Lanz; and daughter-in-law Katherine E. Shelby preceded her in death.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 P. M. EST Sunday November 18, 2018 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Rosary at 7:30 P. M. Funeral Mass 11:00 A. M. EST Monday November 19, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Samuel Futral officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
