Harold Leon Cates, 97 of Mokena, IL died at 8:36 a. m. Friday March 9, 2012 at home. He was born January 1, 1915 at Covington, IN the son of Schuyler LaTourette and Mary (Robb) Cates.
He graduated from Covington High School, class of 1932. Harold was an Air Force veteran of World War II and Korea, he was also the only survivor of a B-29 crash. He was retired from General Motors.
Harold married Angela Mackiewicz, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter Mary Elaine (Jack) Cates-Palica of Mokena, IL and a son Richard Cates of Chicago. Harold was the last survivor of ten children.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a. m. EDT Tuesday March 13, 2012 at Shelby Funeral Home with Father David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow in Danville National Cemetery with military honors by Curtis Redden American Legion Post. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. EDT Monday at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Memorials are requested to Alzheimers Association with envelopes available at Shelby Funeral Home.
