Douglas Alan Switzer

March 9, 1950 — March 10, 2013

Douglas Alan Switzer, 63, of West Lebanon died at 5:16 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at St Vincent Williamsport Hospital. He was born in Danville, IL on March 9, 1950. He is survived by his parents; Alan J and Betty Jo (Parrett) Switzer, son; Blake A (Tiffany) Barker-Switzer, daughter; Chelsea A Barker-Switzer, grandson; Kaleb A Barker-Switzer, fiance; Brenda Park, sister; Susan (Tom) Pearcy, brother; Jim (Pam) Switzer, nephews; Bret Myers, Bart Myers, Jason Switzer, niece; Marcie Wolf, and cousins; Peggy Hayman, Debbie Clabaugh, and Herb Parrett. He was preceded in death by his cousin Janice Switzer.

Doug was a graduate of Seeger High School in 1968 where he was active in sports; being a member of the Seeger Indians 1967 Sectional Championship Team. He attended Carroll College in Waukesha, WI on a basketball scholarship and graduated in 1972. He obtained a Masters Degree from Moorehead State University in Moorehead, KY.

Doug led an active career in coaching basketball throughout his life. He was a coach at Bob Cousys basketball camp in 1970 and served as an assistant coach for Valparaiso and Moorehead State Universities and Wabash and Wabash Valley Colleges. He returned to Warren County, IN in 1982 where he operated his own rental property business and worked on his familys farm outside of State Line, IN.

In recent years, Doug was active in his community by coaching a 4th grade intramural basketball team as a volunteer through Seeger. Dougs absolute love of sports and children made a perfect combination of what a true coach is supposed to be. He never missed an opportunity to teach the fundamentals of basketball to any young person who showed interest. Doug enjoyed going to Seeger High School games and could often be found sitting in the front center row supporting the Patriots throughout their season.

Doug will be missed by all those who knew and loved him and were fortunate to have their lives impacted by him.

Visitation will be at Shelby Funeral Home 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m. Thursday March 14, 2013 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. Jan Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in West Lebanon Cemetery. Condolences to the family: [email protected] .
