David J. Lape, 66, of Covington died suddenly Sunday February 6, 2022 doing what he enjoyed – working. He was clearing CR Road 1650 North at the time. David was born September 28, 1955 at Rolla, Missouri, the son of Jacob Harold Lape and Patricia Ann Pithoud Lape. He never married.
David was a life resident of Danville and Covington community. He was a 1973 graduate of Danville High School and DACC with an associate degree. He was a farmer all of his life, farming with his father, brother and nephew. He was always interested in motorsports. He started with tractor pulling at a young age. Later he helped with a drag racing team travelling throughout the nation, and finally he helped with a go-cart racing crew that won the national championship.
Surviving is his father Jake and brother Alan, both of Covington; a nephew Duncan J. Lape and wife Morgan of Williamsport; an aunt Portia Hathaway of Kingman, IN; and several cousins. His mother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday February 9, 2022 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Scott Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Mound Cemetery, Covington. Visitation 12:00 P. M. to 2:00 P. M. time of services. Condolences to the family: www.shelbyfuneralhome.com .
