Covington - Coy Dean Walter, 86 died at Provena USMC on Tuesday October 18, 2011 after a short illness surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Danville, IL November 25, 1924 to Celia Ann Smith and John Clifford Walter. He attended Wabash Chapel Church.
As a child Coy attended school in Danville and had fond memories of riding his horse and riding in his parents Model T. After graduating from Bismarck High School in 1943, Coy became a machinist apprentice for the C & E I Railroad and later worked for NY Central before becoming a machinist for Tee Pak in 1957 where he would work until retiring in 1987.
Coy met his wife of 63 years, Barbara Lou Martin, at Pops Skating Rink in Danville. They married September 12, 1948 and moved to Covington in 1960 to raise their 3 sons. Coy enjoyed piddling in his workshop with his brother, Homer, making furniture and candleholders for family. He also enjoyed making maple syrup in his sugar camp with the whole family present.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Celia and John Clifford; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles Homer and Bonnie Page Walter; his brother-in-law, Paul Samuel Martin; and son, John Martin Walter.
Coy is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sisters and spouses, Betty Janice (Marvin) Ferguson of Brownsburg, IN, Anna Marie (William Smokey) Loschen of Fithian, IL; sister-in-law, Donna Martin of Covington; sons, Mark Allen (Kathleen) of Lake Charles, LA, Paul Dean (Sheila) of Indianapolis, Glen James of Attica; grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth Walter of Lake Charles, LA, Stephanie Ann Walter of King of Prussia, PA, and Mark Ryan Walter of Lake Charles, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p. m. Thursday and 10:00 to 11:00 a. m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 a. m. Friday October 21, 2011 with Pastor Daneen Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Wabash Chapel Church with envelopes available at Shelby Funeral Home.
