Betty Jo Switzer of Covington, Indiana passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021. Betty Jo was born on August 4, 1925 at home in Covington to Herbert D. and Marie H. Murphy Parrett. She grew up in this home attending the Covington schools and graduating in the Class of 1943. Upon graduation she entered Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing in Danville, Illinois graduating in 1946.
She married Alan J. Switzer on November 24, 1946 at the State Line United Methodist Church, State Line, Indiana upon Alan’s return from serving in the U.S. Army in Korea. They made their home on a farm in Kent Township, Warren County, Indiana. They spent their married life in this area where her husband was raised and they were blessed with three children, Susan, Douglas, and Jim which she was proud to be their Mom. Betty Jo considered herself a farmer’s wife and could give nursing care to any of her neighbors in their homes.
She was a member of Farmers Chapel, Danville, Illinois, Lakeview Nurses Alumna, former Richard Henry Lee Chapter D.A.R. of Covington, and a Life Member of the John Purdue Club.
Betty Jo is survived by her daughter, Susan Pearcy (Tom) of Pittsboro, IN. and son, James Switzer (Pam) of Williamsport, IN. Also, six grandchildren Bret Myers (Kristi) of Noblesville, IN., Bart Myers (Tricia) of Cypress TX, Blake Barker-Switzer of Crawfordsville, IN., Chelsea Barker-Switzer (Matt) of Grass Valley, CA., Jason Switzer (Trisha) of Williamsport, IN, and Marcie Wolf of Williamsport, IN. Twelve great grandchildren Grace and Adam Myers, Isabelle, Samuel and Stuart Myers, Pacen, Hanah, and Holdan Wolf, Jessi Jo Switzer, Kaleb and Graysen Barker- Switzer, and Reese Barker-Sordahl. Two nieces, Peggy Hayman and Debbie Clabaugh and one nephew, Herbert L. Parrett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan, son, Douglas Alan, brother, James E. Parrett and a niece, Janice Lynn Switzer.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Shelby Funeral home in Covington with visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 P. M. with the services beginning at 2:00 P. M. Burial to follow in Mt.
