Alva Carpenter, 79, of Covington, IN., passed away at 4:45 P.M. on Wednesday April 22, 2015, at Presence Health in Danville, IL.
He was born in El Paso, Illinois on January 13, 1936 to Amos Wilbur and Eva (Cox) Carpenter. He moved to the Covington area after graduating from Crescent-Iroquois High School in 1954. Alva married Mary Lou Isom on December 15, 1957 in Knoxville, TN. She survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, Larry (Tammy) Carpenter of Newtown, IN., Darrell (Ura) Carpenter of Covington, Steve (Tracy) Carpenter of Crawfordsville, IN., daughter Debbie (Cole) Butler of Claremore, OK. Also, nieces, Dianna (John) Lutes of Brownsburg, IN. and Julia Isom of Covington, IN., 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a great-nephew and two great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and a nephew.
Alva retired in 1997 after working 42 years in maintenance for Olin/Flexel. He enjoyed family and friends, loved to travel, camp and going to all types of sales. He restored many antique tractors and always kept a garden. Alva was known for his many pranks and will be greatly missed. He was a member of the Stringtown Church of God.
Visitation will be Sunday April 26, 2015, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. (EDT) at the Stringtown Church of God. Funeral service at 5:00 P.M. with Pastor Keith Klossner officiating.
