Alice Louise (Brasker) Payne, 83, of Covington, IN passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at The Waters of Covington. She was there for a brief time for rehabilitation from a recent case of dehydration and pneumonia.
Alice was born October 14, 1934 in warren County, Indiana to Garnet Louise (VanPelt) Brasker and Donald Brasker. She married Vernon Jahvan Payne February 28, 1951. He preceded her in death October 10, 1984.
She is preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Garland and Ronnie Brasker, a sister, Debbie Crawford, and a son Darrell Jahvan Payne; two brothers-in-law, Robert Summers and Jeff Allison.
Surviving family include two daughters, Vana Payne, Brandon, FL, Lisa (Kelly) Fudge, Covington, IN; a son Brad (Debbie) Payne, Clarksville, GA.; a daughter-in-law Nancy Payne, Inman, SC; three sisters, Margaret Summers, Covington, IN; Donna (Jerry) Hale, Avon, IN; Sue Allison, Covington, IN; one brother Merrille Brasker, Williamsport, IN; three sisters-in law, Brenda Metzger, Covington, IN, Judy Brasker, Wingate, IN and Mary Lee Payne, Perrysville, IN; six grandchildren, Chad (Dana) Payne, Kyle Payne, Toby Payne, Mandy (Matt) SanSouci, Chris (Beth) Castillo and Johnnie Castillo; ten great grandchildren, one great great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice attend State Line Grade School and Covington High School, where she was Homecoming Queen as a freshman. After school she worked as a mother, helping on their family farm and full time at General Electric. She quit General Electric in 1964 to be a stay at home mother and wife. Years later she took a part time job at Lindee’s Root Beer stand in Covington. It was the perfect job for her, she loved people, was extremely social and never met a person she couldn’t talk to. It was at that job she met her dear friend Kerri Mitchell and the formed a bond of everlasting friendship. She was a member of the Stringtown Church of God and loved her church family. Alice loved to travel, she has been all over the world, including taking up to 13 cruises. She is survived by her best traveling buddy Pat Brown. A few of her traveling group still meet for lunch every few months. She enjoyed outside and was known for numerous varieties of flower. She was an animal lover and had dogs of her own and a special love for her daughter’s cat. Alice was loved by anyone that knew her and it brings great joy to her family to continuously hear, she was such a sweet lady.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. EST Saturday January 20, 2018 at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Pastor Keith Klossner officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
