Albert Stephen Hegg

November 18, 1951 — January 19, 2015

Albert Stephen Steve Hegg, 63, of Indianapolis, IN, a former Covington resident passed away at 4:35P. M Monday January 19, 2015 at his home after a struggle against cancer. He was born November 18, 1951 in Danville IL to the late Albert Matthew and Neva June (Hines) Hegg.

He met and was the life partner of Amy Brower on August 4, 1987. She Survives. In addition to Amy, he is survived by his sister, Kathleen (John) Waclaw; a son, Stephen Matthew Hegg, Step-son Troy Stewart, Daughter, Susan, all of Covington, IN, niece Cheryl Waclaw, 2 nephews, Daniel (Teresa Moreno), and Patrick Waclaw, four grandchildren, Mother-in-law Eunice Brower, and countless other family members and friends.

Steve graduated from Covington High School in 1969. He worked in his parents restaurants, notably Hegg Family Restaurant in Covington, before working in food service and catering management in the Indianapolis area.

After surviving a car accident in 1987 that left him a quadriplegic, he became an advocate for other people with disabilities as a leader of the Central Indiana Chapter of the Indiana Spinal Cord Injury Association. He was a life-long learner who refused to allow his injury to keep him from enjoying his time with family and friends.

A visitation will take place from 11:00 A. M. to 1:00 00 P. M. Saturday January 24, 2015 at Shelby Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P. M. with Rev. David Rasner, J.C.L., officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Wheeler Mission, P O Box 3085, Indianapolis, IN 46206 with envelopes available at Shelby Funeral Home.
