Alan C. Moudy, 78, of Covington, Indiana, passed away from heart and lung complications at 1:45 P. M. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Alan was born September 20, 1944 in Danville Illinois. He was the son of Mary Margaret (Galloway) and Ernest Moudy Jr. Alan grew up in Covington and was a 1962 graduate of Covington High School. Following high school, Alan pursued a career in agriculture at Michigan State University, where he graduated in 1966. Alan was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam war.
Alan married Kathy VanDame on March 5, 1983. They had four children.
Alan worked his entire life in the agriculture industry and retired from Ceres Solutions in State Line. Indiana.
Alan was a talented woodworker and enjoyed crafting in his wood shop. He enjoyed fishing and boating, his yearly trip to Canada with the OHB men, gardening, mushrooming, watching birds, watching westerns, fixing and repairing old tractors, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was known to them as Big Papaw and Pop Pop.
Alan was a member of the Perrysville American Legion and the Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395. He was a member of the Wabash Valley Steam and Gas Club and the Illiana Antique Power Association. Alan was an avid Michigan State sports fan and he never missed a men's basketball game. Alan always had a good joke to tell and he never met a stranger.
Alan is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughters: Amy Townsend (Jason) Covington; Becky Claypool (Jeremy) Covington; and Amber Coursey, Monterey Beach, CA. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren: Brennon Townsend, Isobel Coursey, Madolynn Coursey, Kobe Townsend, Hudson Claypool, Ian Claypool, and Landon Claypool. Alan also is survived by a brother, Owen (Donna) Moudy, Covington, a sister, Marianne Moudy, Covington, special friends Jake Lape and John Ohl.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ryan Coffing, infant twin daughters Jennifer and Leann Moudy, son-in-law Todd Coursey, and friends Jim and Ruth Miller.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P. M. EST Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, Indiana with Pastor Keith Klossner officiating. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 P. M. EST until 6:00 P. M. EST time of services.
