MaryLou (Isom) Carpenter

MaryLou (Isom) Carpenter, 86, of Covington Indiana, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Fountain Springs Assisted Living, surrounded by family.

She was born in Sciota Illinois, to Lawrence and Pearl Isom on April 25, 1937. At the age of 8 she and her family moved to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. She graduated from Gatlinburg High School in 1955.

Mary Lou worked at Medline Sewing factory for many years, IGA and John’s Market. She enjoyed family and friends, reading, traveling, Camp Meeting with church friends, and loved a good sale. She was a member of Stringtown Church of God. Mary Lou loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served him faithfully.

Mary Lou married Alva Carpenter on December 15th, 1957, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She moved to Covington Indiana, where they built their life together. He precedes her in death.

She is survived by: Larry (Tammy) Carpenter of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Darrell (Ura) Carpenter of Covington, Indiana, Debbie (Cole) Butler of Claremore, Oklahoma, Steve (Tracy) Carpenter of Crawfordsville, Indiana, grandchildren; Sarah Beth Butler, Nikki (Robert) Malone, Cody (Sierra) Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter, Logan (Erika) Butler, Delci (Alex) Bright, Rebekah (Dan) Fields, Emily (Dylan) Wilson, John (Rachel) Riley, Adam (Hanna Scott) Carpenter, Luke Riley and 14 great-grandchildren (with the last one added just a few days before she passed), nieces; Dianna (John) Lutes, Julia Isom, Pam (Jeff) Mayes, Patsy (Tom) Gallant and Terry (Matthew) Barnes, sisters-in-law; Joann Isom and Ella Mae.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and a nephew.

Visitation will be 5-7pm (EST), Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the church and funeral service will be at 11am (EST) Thursday, March 21, 2024 with visitation 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at Stringtown Church of God, Covington, Indiana.  Interment will follow to Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, IN.  In luie of flowers, memorials may be made to Stringtown Church of God.
